Description

Ceiling-hugging and wide, this is a plated circular frame dressed in clear crystal, 60cm across, so it reads like a chandelier without the drop. Six candle lamps sit within the crystal, and the French gold plating throws a warmer cast across the glass than a chrome finish would. The body itself is shallow, keeping the whole fitting tight to the ceiling. It is a flush fitting rather than a pendant.

It suits rooms where a hanging fitting would be in the way: a dining room with a lower ceiling, a landing, a main bedroom, a hallway that needs light spread evenly rather than pooled. Light comes from right round the frame rather than a single point, so it washes the room fairly evenly. With dimmable lamps and a dimmer on the circuit it will pull back to something quiet for the evening. We would reach for it where a chandelier would hang too low, and we like it in period rooms that want sparkle without a long chain.

The crystal is clear throughout, cut glass carried on plated metalwork, and the pairing is what does the work: warm gold behind, clear glass in front. Keep it looking right with an occasional going-over using a dry lint-free cloth, holding each drop steady rather than tugging at it, and leave sprays and creams alone so the plating stays even. Small candle lamps are bought separately, and dimmable ones are needed if you want to dim. It carries a one year warranty.
