Description

The Hinkley Collier is a 346mm flush ceiling light with a curved heritage brass frame that arcs over an etched opal glass bowl, holding two E27 bulbs inside. The 124mm profile sits close to the ceiling, making it suitable for rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m where a pendant would hang too low. The brass frame uses a warm antique finish with subtle tonal variation across the metal surface.

Designed for hallways, landings, entrance halls and low-ceilinged bedrooms, the Collier provides general overhead lighting without projecting far into the room. The etched opal glass diffuses light from both bulbs across the bowl's interior surface, reducing glare and casting a soft, even light downwards and outwards. The two decorative brass uprights on each side of the frame bow outwards, giving the fitting a slightly wider visual presence than a plain dome flush.

The heritage brass finish develops small micro-scratches over time as part of its aged aesthetic, distinguishing it from polished or lacquered brass which maintains a uniform shine. The glass bowl is removable for bulb replacement by unclipping the retention screws at the base of the brass frame. Each E27 socket accepts bulbs up to 40W, allowing for either warm LED bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K or traditional filament bulbs for a more amber-toned output.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does the Collier take?

The fitting takes two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 40W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K-3000K for general hallway or landing lighting.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

Yes. The 124mm projection from ceiling to base of glass bowl makes the Collier suitable for rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m where pendant lights would hang too low or obstruct head clearance.

How is the glass bowl removed for bulb changes?

The glass bowl is held by retention screws at the base of the brass frame. Unscrew these to lower the bowl, replace the bulbs, and re-clip the bowl back into position.

What's the difference between heritage brass and polished brass?

Heritage brass has a warm, aged finish with tonal variation across the metal surface and develops micro-scratches over time as part of its aesthetic. Polished brass maintains a uniform high-shine surface and is typically lacquered to prevent tarnishing.
