When the fan function is activated, four retractable blades extend from inside the ring housing and rotate on a DC brushless motor that operates more quietly than traditional AC fan motors. When the fan is switched off, the blades retract fully back inside the housing, leaving only the ring-shaped light fixture visible. The reversible motor allows summer downward airflow to cool the room and winter upward circulation to redistribute warm air trapped near the ceiling.
