Description
This coiled steampunk snake figurine is a cobra reimagined as a machine, rearing up from a tight coil with its hood spread wide and its jaws open. Gears and cogs are set into the hood, ribbed tubing runs up either side like springs, and rivets line the throat, while the lower coils keep a fine scale pattern. It is made from resin with an antique silver finish, picked out in bronze and copper tones on the gears, tubes and bands. It stands 33cm tall, 14cm wide and 16cm deep, tall enough to hold its own on a shelf.
Because it is finished all the way round, it works where it can be seen from more than one side: a bookcase, a desk in a study, a mantelpiece or a sideboard in the hall. The back of the hood is worth a look in its own right, textured and flecked with copper, with a single large gear and two coiled tubes running down it. Its compact coiled base takes up little room, so it fits on a narrow shelf among other curios. The silver and bronze tones sit well with dark wood, leather, brass and industrial pieces such as metal lamps and old clocks, and they suit a gothic or vintage scheme.
The figurine is made from resin and stands on its own coiled base, so it needs no wall, fixing or stand. To care for it, dust it with a soft dry cloth, or use a soft, dry brush to reach between the gears and the coiled tubing, and avoid water and household cleaners on the finish. Set it on a flat, steady surface. For styling, we like it lit from one side, where a lamp picks out the raised gears on the hood. As a gift, it brings a bit of mechanical fantasy to a shelf of curios.
