Description

The Cocoon is a 400mm flush ceiling light built around two frosted glass hemisphere diffusers set into a silver-finished rectangular backplate. Each diffuser houses a G9 bulb (sold separately), and the frosted glass softens the light output into a diffused glow rather than a directed beam.

Designed for low-ceiling spaces where a pendant or semi-flush would hang too low, the Cocoon sits 100mm from ceiling to base, making it suitable for hallways, bathrooms, small bedrooms and other rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m. The rectangular backplate measures 400mm x 270mm, giving enough coverage to replace a standard ceiling rose or recessed fitting without leaving unpainted ceiling visible.

The silver finish on the metal backplate is a brushed metallic rather than polished chrome, so it reads as soft grey rather than mirror-bright. The two frosted glass diffusers are spaced symmetrically along the plate, creating balanced light distribution across the room rather than a central hotspot. At 1.6kg the fitting mounts directly to a ceiling joist or plasterboard anchor rated for at least 2kg.

Dimmer compatibility depends on the G9 bulbs you pair it with — halogen G9s dim on most standard dimmers, while LED G9s require dimmable-rated bulbs and may need a trailing-edge dimmer depending on the specific LED driver. The fitting itself is dimmable-ready with no internal electronics that would block dimming.

The Cocoon takes two G9 capsule bulbs, sold separately. Most users pair it with 3-5W LED G9 bulbs in 2700K-3000K for warm white light. The fitting is rated for up to 40W per socket, so halogen G9s are also compatible if you prefer the light quality of halogen.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

Yes. At 100mm projection from ceiling to base, the Cocoon suits rooms with ceiling heights from 2.2m upwards where a pendant would hang too low. The flush mount keeps headroom clear in hallways, small bedrooms and bathrooms.

Can it be dimmed?
