Description
This clip-on silk string lampshade is built on a metal wire frame with an 80mm top diameter, 130mm base diameter and 110mm height, wrapped entirely in hand-pleated aubergine silk threads. The pleating runs vertically from rim to rim, creating fine parallel ridges that catch and diffuse light when the bulb inside is lit. The clip-on fitting grips the bulb holder directly without needing a shade carrier or harp.
Designed for small table lamps, bedside lamps and chandelier arms using candle-style E14 bulbs, the shade suits lamps where the bulb holder sits exposed and needs a direct-fit shade. The 80mm top opening fits most standard E14 holders, and the 130mm base provides enough coverage to hide the bulb while directing light downward and outward through the silk. The aubergine colour is a deep plum-purple that warms under incandescent or warm-white LED bulbs, casting a rich tonal glow.
Each silk thread is hand-wrapped around the frame and held under tension to maintain the vertical pleating. The silk itself is lightweight but tightly woven, giving the shade structure without adding weight — the entire fitting weighs 100g. The aubergine finish pairs with brass, bronze, antique gold and warm wood tones in traditional, classical and warm contemporary interiors, and works particularly well in bedrooms and living rooms where ambient rather than task lighting is needed.

Frequently Asked
What bulb fitting does this shade fit?
The clip-on fitting is designed for E14 candle bulb holders. The 80mm top opening grips the holder directly. The shade will not fit E27 or bayonet bulb holders without an adaptor ring.
Can it be used on a chandelier?
Yes. The clip-on design works on chandelier arms with exposed E14 bulb holders. The 100g weight is light enough not to unbalance most chandelier arms, but check the arm can support the shade before fitting.
How is the silk cleaned?
Dust gently with a soft brush or dry microfibre cloth. Do not use water or cleaning sprays on silk — the fabric will stain and lose its pleating. If the shade becomes heavily soiled, replacement is recommended rather than washing.
What wattage bulb can be used inside?
Use LED bulbs up to 6W or halogen bulbs up to 25W maximum. Higher wattages risk overheating the silk. The shade sits close to the bulb, so cooler-running LED is recommended over halogen or incandescent.
