Description

The Cleveland Small is a compact outdoor wall lantern built from aluminium with a weathered bronze finish and seeded glass panels. The lantern body measures 185mm wide by 415mm tall, projecting 238mm from the wall on a curved bracket. A single E27 bulb inside the glass enclosure (sold separately, max 60W) casts light through the seeded texture, diffusing the beam across porches, side entrances and narrow pathways.

Designed for exterior mounting on rendered, brick or timber walls, the lantern carries an IP44 rating for protection against rain splashes and airborne dust, making it suitable for positions under eaves, porch canopies or recessed doorways where direct rainfall is limited. The curved glass panels and turned finial at the top give the fitting a traditional lantern profile that pairs with period properties, cottage exteriors and classical doorway surrounds.

The weathered bronze finish is a dark metal tone with lighter bronze highlights showing through at raised edges, replicating the patina of aged outdoor metalwork. The seeded glass has a fine bubble texture that softens the light output and hides the bulb filament or LED element from direct view. The aluminium construction keeps the weight manageable for wall-mounted installation on standard external fixings.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction. The Cleveland Small is suitable for covered porches, doorways under eaves and wall positions where it is sheltered from direct sustained rainfall, but not for fully exposed positions with no overhead protection.

What bulb should I use?

The lantern takes a standard E27 Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Most users pair it with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2700K for a traditional glow. Clear or amber-tinted LED filament bulbs complement the seeded glass and bronze finish.

How is it mounted to the wall?

The lantern fixes to an external wall via a rear mounting plate with two fixing points. The plate should be fixed to solid brick, rendered blockwork or external-grade timber. The cable enters through a rear knock-out and connects to mains wiring inside the mounting plate before the lantern body is attached.

Does the weathered bronze finish deteriorate outdoors?

The finish is factory-applied to aluminium and designed for outdoor exposure. The weathered effect is a decorative finish rather than natural patina, so it will not change significantly over time. Rinse with clean water annually to remove surface dirt and maintain appearance.
