Description

Five E27 lampholders sit on an open black frame, ranged across a span of 47cm so the light falls wide rather than pooling tightly. The look is rustic and stripped back: dark metalwork, bare holders and plenty of air between them. Projection from the wall is modest, and the black finish reads as a clean outline against a pale wall.

We reach for something like this in a hallway or on a landing, where a lone fitting would look mean and a row of separate lights would be fussy. It also works either side of a bed or above a long sideboard in a dining room. Spread across the frame, low wattage lamps give a soft wash rather than a hard point of light, which suits rooms used in the evening more than rooms worked in. Tubular LED lamps suit it best, since their shape follows the line of the holders and keeps the whole thing looking deliberate. Dimming is possible with dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer. There is no switch on the fitting, so it takes its cue from the wall switch.

Everything wears the same black finish, frame and holders alike, so the fitting stays quiet on the wall when the lamps are off. For upkeep, run a dry cloth along the arms every so often to lift dust before it settles into the finish, and let the lamps go cold before you handle them. It carries a one year warranty. The range also runs to a pendant and a table lamp in the same black, so the look can be carried across a room or a floor of the house. Lamps are not included.
