Description

The Citronic Classic is a 20m speaker cable fitted with latching SPK plugs at both ends, designed to connect passive speakers to amplifiers or powered speakers to passive satellites in PA and stage systems. The cable uses 2 x 1.5mm² cross-sectional area conductors, each comprising 50 strands of 0.17mm pure copper wire, giving a total conductor count of 100 strands per cable.

Built for mobile DJ setups, live sound reinforcement and installed PA systems where speaker runs exceed 10m, the 20m length handles larger venues, outdoor events and multi-room installations without needing mid-run joins. The latching SPK connectors twist-lock into compatible speaker and amplifier sockets, preventing accidental disconnection during transport or performance. The 7mm outer diameter cable strikes a balance between flexibility for coiling and cable management, and physical robustness for regular setup/breakdown cycles.

The pure copper conductors reduce resistance over the 20m run compared to copper-clad aluminium alternatives, maintaining signal integrity and reducing power loss between amplifier and speaker. Internal cotton reinforcement adds tensile strength to resist stretching or tearing when the cable is pulled through cable runs or over stage edges. The rubberised outer jacket provides abrasion resistance and remains flexible in temperatures down to typical UK winter outdoor conditions.

Frequently Asked

What equipment does this cable connect?

The SPK plugs fit SPK sockets commonly found on passive PA speakers, powered speakers with satellite outputs, and power amplifiers with SPK speaker outputs. The cable is designed for speaker-level signals, not line-level or instrument signals.

Is 1.5mm² adequate for a 20m run?

For typical 8-ohm passive speakers and amplifier outputs between 200-500W, 1.5mm² copper conductors over 20m provide acceptable resistance and minimal power loss. For higher-power applications or 4-ohm loads, consider stepping up to 2.5mm² cable to reduce resistance further.

Are the SPK connectors compatible with SpeakON?

No. SPK plugs and SpeakON (Neutrik NL4) are different connector systems and are not mechanically compatible. Check your equipment's socket type before purchasing. If your speakers use SpeakON sockets, you need a cable with SpeakON connectors.

Can the cable be used outdoors?

The rubberised jacket provides basic weather resistance for temporary outdoor use during dry conditions. For permanent outdoor installation or wet environments, use IP-rated connectors and conduit protection. The cable itself is not IP-rated.
