Description
This little resin mouse figurine stands ready for Christmas in a knitted-look red and white bobble hat, holding a green wreath in both paws. Its light brown fur, pink ears and pink nose give it a soft, friendly face, with dark glossy eyes and a small smile. A red jumper with white cuffs carries a frosted, sparkling finish like a dusting of snow, and a sprig of holly sits on one side of the hat. The wreath is tied with a gold ribbon and dotted with red berries, while a long pink tail curls round at the side. At 11cm it is a small piece in red and brown.
We like it on a mantelpiece, a windowsill or a bookshelf, where its friendly face catches the eye. It stands on its own feet, so it needs no hook or branch and sits just as happily on a hall table, a dresser or a desk at work as it does among the greenery on the Christmas table. Because it is small, it tucks easily into a festive scene alongside other figures, a bowl of pine cones or a little row of cards. As a Christmas gift it is a cheerful choice to give with a card, and one that can come out with the decorations each December.
The figure is cast in resin, also known as polystone, which holds fine detail well: you can see the knit of the hat, the texture of the fur and the leaves of the wreath. To keep the frosted finish looking fresh, dust it with a soft dry cloth or a soft brush, and avoid water or polish. When the season ends, wrap it in tissue and pack it away with the other decorations, ready to bring out again next year. Set it beside a sprig of real holly on the mantelpiece and it looks right at home.
