Chasm LED Outdoor Wall Light - Matt Black

The Chasm is an IP44-rated outdoor wall light with an integrated 5.5W 3000K LED, housed inside a matt black geometric metal body with a painted wood-effect accent band wrapping the centre. The light projects both upwards and downwards through open-ended hexagonal diffusers, casting illumination onto the wall above and below the fitting without spilling forward.

Designed for residential exteriors including covered porches, doorway surrounds, and external hallway passages where the IP44 rating provides protection from rain splash and dust ingress, the Chasm projects 130mm from the wall and sits 386mm tall. The up-down beam pattern highlights vertical architectural features and breaks up blank wall expanses without creating glare at eye level when approaching a doorway.

The matt black metal body is formed from folded sheet steel, giving the fitting a 172mm-square footprint and angular profile. The painted wood-effect band provides a tonal contrast against the black finish and sits recessed between the upper and lower light chambers. The integrated LED runs on mains 230V and cannot be replaced, giving the fitting a sealed design that contributes to its IP44 weatherproofing. The 3000K colour temperature produces warm white light comparable to halogen.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 provides protection from solid objects over 1mm in size and from water splashes from any direction. The Chasm is suitable for covered porches, door surrounds and external walls with overhang protection, but not for fully exposed positions subject to driving rain or direct water jets.

Can the LED be replaced?

No. The 5.5W LED is integrated into the sealed light chamber and cannot be user-replaced. The LED is rated for approximately 25,000-30,000 hours of operation, which equates to 10-15 years of typical evening use.

Does it need a junction box or back box?

The Chasm mounts directly onto an external wall surface and connects to mains wiring via a small cavity behind the wall plate. A weatherproof external junction box or a sealed cable entry point is recommended for installation, particularly on rendered or masonry walls.

Is it dimmable?

Integrated LED wall lights are typically non-dimmable unless specifically stated in the manufacturer data. The Quoizel Chasm does not list dimmer compatibility in its specification, so it should be wired to a standard switched circuit rather than a dimmer switch.
