Chasm LED Outdoor Wall Light Large - Matte Black with Wood Band

The Chasm is a 520mm tall outdoor wall light with a hexagonal matte black frame punctuated by a horizontal painted wood-effect band. The light casts both upwards and downwards through open top and bottom apertures, creating a wash of light in both directions rather than illuminating a specific object. The integrated 9.5W LED operates at 3000K and is built into the frame rather than being a replaceable bulb.

Designed for exterior walls on houses, garages, outbuildings and covered porches, the Chasm suits modern and contemporary exteriors where architectural detailing benefits from directional accent lighting. The IP44 rating protects against solid objects above 1mm and water splashing from any direction, making the fitting suitable for positions under eaves, covered porches and walls facing open courtyards but not fully exposed horizontal surfaces in heavy rain. The 130mm projection from the wall keeps the fitting clear of most external cladding profiles.

The matte black powder-coated finish on the steel frame minimises reflections and pairs with anthracite windows, black rainwater goods and charcoal render or cladding. The painted wood-effect band sits mid-height on the frame as a horizontal accent, providing visual relief from the black metalwork without the maintenance demands of real timber. The hexagonal cross-section of the frame gives the light a faceted appearance when viewed from an angle, with the geometric shape casting angled shadows on the wall behind when the LED is lit.

Is the LED replaceable?

No. The 9.5W LED is integrated into the fitting and rated for approximately 30,000 hours of operation. At an average use of 4 hours per evening, this equates to around 20 years before the LED output degrades noticeably. The fitting is designed as a complete unit rather than one with replaceable components.

Can this be used in fully exposed positions?

The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, making the fitting suitable for positions under eaves, covered porches and sheltered walls. It is not rated for fully exposed horizontal surfaces in heavy rain or coastal positions with salt spray exposure.

Does the light point up and down or illuminate a specific area?

The Chasm casts light both upwards and downwards through open apertures at the top and bottom of the hexagonal frame. This creates a wall-wash effect in both directions rather than illuminating a path or driveway. It works best as architectural accent lighting rather than functional task lighting.

How is the wood-effect band maintained?

The band is painted metal with a wood-grain effect finish, not real timber. It requires no oiling, sealing or re-treatment. Clean with a damp cloth if dust or cobwebs accumulate.
