Description

This white ceramic light-up decoration takes the form of a little gabled house, with two bristly brush Christmas trees standing on its base, one at each side. The house has a steep pointed roof, a tall chimney and a lower wing to one side, all in a glossy white glaze, with fine gold edging picking out the roofline and the arched window at the front. Cut-out windows run across the walls: a round window with crossed bars high in the gable, small square panes beneath it and a tall arched window at ground level, so the light inside shines out through each one. The trees are a deep green with white-tipped bristles that look freshly dusted with snow. It stands 16.5cm tall, 15cm wide and 12.5cm deep.

At that size it sits happily on a mantelpiece, a windowsill, a sideboard or a bookshelf. Lit in the evening, the glowing windows bring a cosy, homely feel to a living room, hallway or dining table through the Christmas season. It runs on batteries, so it needs no socket nearby and can go wherever the shelf or sill suits it best. It is a light for dry rooms indoors, so keep it away from bathrooms, porches and anywhere damp.

The house is ceramic in a smooth glossy glaze, and the trees are brush-style evergreens standing on the base. The batteries come included, so it is ready to light as soon as it is unpacked. To keep it looking its best, dust the ceramic with a soft dry cloth and whisk any dust from the trees with a clean, dry soft brush. Store it carefully after the festive season so the bristles keep their shape. We like it set on a tray with a scattering of pine cones, and it makes a lovely thing to give to anyone who loves a Christmas village scene.
