Description

The Hinkley Cello is a 216mm diameter mini pendant light with a bell-shaped faux alabaster glass shade suspended from an antique bronze stem and ceiling rose. The shade tapers from a 216mm base to a narrower neck where it meets the bronze fitting, which features curved uprights that echo traditional lantern construction. The pendant accepts a single E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately).

Designed for kitchen islands, breakfast bars, dining tables and hallway positions, the Cello works as a single pendant over a small table or grouped in twos or threes along a larger island. The adjustable drop ranges from 248mm to 998mm on installation, allowing the pendant to be set 700-800mm above a worktop in kitchens with standard 2.4m ceilings or shortened for lower ceiling heights. The 216mm shade diameter provides focused downward light without overwhelming compact spaces.

The antique bronze finish combines a dark metal base tone with lighter bronze highlights on raised edges and turned details, giving the fitting depth and visual interest under both daylight and artificial light. The faux alabaster glass diffuses the bulb output into a soft, warm glow that reduces glare while maintaining enough light intensity for task positions. The glass is firmer and more chip-resistant than natural alabaster, requiring only occasional dusting with a dry cloth.

What bulb does the Cello take?

The pendant takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for dining or kitchen use.

Can the drop height be adjusted after installation?

No. The drop is adjustable during installation by shortening the cable and rod assembly to the desired length between 248mm and 998mm. Once installed, the pendant hangs at a fixed height unless re-fitted.

How many pendants are needed for a kitchen island?

For a standard 1.8-2.4m island, two Cello pendants spaced 600-800mm apart provide balanced coverage. Islands over 2.4m may benefit from three pendants. The 216mm shade diameter suits spacing of 600mm or wider between pendant centres.

Is the glass real alabaster?

No. The shade is made from faux alabaster glass, which replicates the translucency and warm tone of natural alabaster but is more durable, chip-resistant and consistent in colour between pieces.
