Cawdor Wine Glass Wall Light 28cm High Smoke - Polished Chrome

A slim chrome wall bracket carries a smoke glass shade shaped like an upturned wine glass, its stem and foot drawn out in fine lines and the bowl flaring gently to hold the lamp. The polished chrome catches the light, black detailing on the metalwork keeps the outline crisp, and the tinted glass softens the lamp behind it into a warm amber glow rather than a bright point. A toggle switch sits on the fitting itself, so the light can be turned on and off where you stand. At 18cm wide, it reads as a small, quiet piece on the wall.

It suits bedsides, a hallway wall, a landing, an alcove beside a fireplace or either side of a mirror, and it works well in pairs where you want symmetry without bulk. The lampholder is an E27, taking up to 20W, and the shape flatters a decorative LED: a plain GLS, a rounded globe, a squirrel cage ST64 or a slim tubular T45 all sit happily in the bowl. We would choose a warm white LED here, since the smoke glass rewards a filament you can actually see. With a compatible lamp and a suitable dimmer it can be dimmed down to something very low and companionable.

The shade is glass and the metalwork is finished in polished chrome, so keep both dry: dust with a soft cloth, and for fingerprints on the chrome use a barely damp cloth and buff it off straight away, working with the power off and the glass cool. It is intended for dry rooms indoors, away from splashes and steam. It carries a one year warranty. What size lamp does it take, and how bright can I go?

It takes one E27 lamp rated up to 20W. An LED at that wattage gives plenty of light for a bedside or hallway.

Can I dim it?

Yes, with a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer is supplied.

Does it have its own switch?

Yes, a toggle switch on the fitting, which is useful at a bedside where you do not want to cross the room.

How far does it stand off the wall?

It projects 280mm and stands 280mm tall, with a width of 180mm, so allow a little clear space either side in a narrow hallway.

What colour is the glass?

Smoke, a soft grey tint that mutes the lamp and looks well with a visible filament.

How should I clean the glass?

Switch the light off and let the glass cool, then wipe with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water. Avoid abrasive creams and solvents on the chrome.
