Description

Twisted into a neat spiral and sleeved in a silver braid, this is flex with a little character to it. The two cores are insulated, wrapped in braid and then wound together, so the finished run has a soft sheen and a woven texture rather than the flat gloss of ordinary PVC. It is VDE approved, and however many metres you order arrive as one continuous piece off the reel, so there are no joins to work around.

We use braided flex wherever the cable is part of the look: pendant sets hung from a ceiling rose, cluster fittings where several drops fall together, and rewiring jobs on older table and floor lamps that deserve better than a plain black lead. Silver sits happily with chrome, nickel and polished steel, and it reads quietly against pale plaster, grey walls and painted joinery. It is a good choice too where a run needs to be seen but not noticed.

The 0.75mm cross section is the usual size for domestic light fittings, and the round profile means it hangs straight and coils back neatly if you have a length spare. Keep it dry and indoors, and give the braid an occasional wipe along its length with a dry cloth, since woven covers hold dust more readily than smooth ones; solvents and household sprays will dull the finish, so leave them in the cupboard. We stock the same braided cable in black, white, red, blue, purple and lime green if a run wants to disappear or stand out, and there are clear and black flat and figure-of-eight options in the range for LED work and less visible runs.
