Colour-changing LED strip needs more conductors than a plain white run, and this is the flex that carries them: six cores at 0.5mm, or 20 AWG in American gauge, enough for the red, green and blue channels plus both whites and a common return. It is sold by the metre, and however many metres you order arrive as one continuous length rather than a handful of cut pieces, so a long run need not carry joins along the way.

We keep this on the shelf for RGB CCT work, where the strip and its controller sit some way apart and a thin two conductor flex simply will not carry the signals. It suits coving and cornice lighting, shelf and display schemes, under cupboard runs in kitchens, and any tunable white scheme where warm and cool are balanced against each other. It is the one we reach for when someone is wiring a colour-changing strip for the first time and would rather have a single flex doing all of it than a bundle to keep track of.

This is a slim, pliable flex rather than a stiff cable, so it follows a corner and tucks away without argument. Keep spare length loosely coiled rather than folded, since a hard crease is the thing most likely to shorten the life of a fine flex, and run your eye along the insulation before you put a piece to work, setting aside anything nicked or scuffed. All the cores sitting in one sheath keeps a colour-changing run tidy and leaves less to trace back if you ever revisit it. If a project needs only power and no colour channels, the same range runs to two core versions in black, white and clear, along with braided flexes in a handful of colours. Why six cores rather than two?

An RGB CCT strip needs a channel each for red, green and blue, plus warm and cool white, with a shared return. Six conductors cover all of that in one flex, which is why we pair it with colour-changing strip rather than single-colour.

How is it supplied if I order several metres?

As one continuous length. Order five and you receive a single 5m piece, not five separate metre cuts, so you can trim it to suit your own run.

What size are the conductors?

Each core is 0.5mm, equivalent to 20 AWG.

Can I use it with plain single-colour strip?

You can, and you would simply leave the spare cores unused. For a straightforward power-only run, though, one of the two core flexes in this range is the tidier choice.

How should I store any off-cuts?

Coil them loosely and keep them somewhere dry. Avoid tight folds or sharp kinks, and discard any piece where the insulation has been cut or crushed.
