Cavo Copper Cable 5 Core 0.5mm - Grey

Five insulated conductors sit under a single grey outer sheath, each one 0.5mm, in a round cable slim enough to follow a shallow curve. It is sold by the metre, and however many metres you order it arrives as one continuous run rather than a handful of short pieces, so you can cut to suit the job instead of joining lengths together. The grey is a plain working grey, not a decorative one.

Its job is control wiring. Colour changing tape needs more conductors than a simple on and off run asks for, and this carries the lot in one cable, which is why it is what we reach for between an RGBW controller and the tape it drives. It does the same work for other multi-signal runs where a slimmer cable would leave you short. Kitchen plinths, alcove shelving, cove lighting above a wardrobe, a media wall: anywhere a colour changing scheme needs its signals carried a sensible distance back to the controller. It suits anyone building a scheme piece by piece who would rather buy the exact length than a fixed reel.

Grey is quietly useful here. It vanishes against grey trunking, unpainted timber and the backs of most furniture, and it takes a marker pen well if you like to label both ends of a run before anything is connected. Keep spare cable loosely coiled rather than kinked, store it away from heat, and a dry cloth drawn along any exposed length is all the cleaning it will want. Why five cores rather than two?

RGBW tape needs a common plus a channel for each of the red, green, blue and white outputs. Five cores keep all of that in one cable, and the same applies to other multi-channel control signals.

How thick is the finished cable?

Around 6mm in diameter, so it tucks behind a shelf edge or into trunking without fuss.

Does it come with connectors fitted?

How should I store any offcuts?

Coil them loosely and keep them somewhere cool and dry. Avoid tight kinks, which stress the insulation over time.
