Colour-changing strip needs more than a pair of wires. An RGBW run wants a conductor for each channel plus a shared supply, and that is what this cable carries: five insulated cores of 0.5mm gathered inside one flexible sheath. It is sold by the metre, and whatever quantity you order arrives as a single continuous length rather than a handful of short pieces, so you can cut it to suit the run in front of you.

We reach for it whenever colour-changing strip has to travel some distance from its controller: under kitchen cabinets, along a coving detail, behind a headboard, or up into a shelf recess where the driver sits out of sight. It suits anyone putting a strip lighting scheme together from parts rather than buying a kit, and we keep it on the shelf beside our RGBW strip and controllers for exactly that reason. It is slim enough to follow an aluminium profile or sit behind a cabinet plinth without fuss.

Each core is insulated separately within the outer sheath, which keeps the channels identifiable when you come to terminate them, and the sheath stays supple enough to turn a corner without fighting you. Coil any spare loosely instead of kinking it, keep it clear of heat sources, and if a length ends up visible, an occasional pass with a dry cloth is all it asks. For single colour work, the same range runs to two core figure 8 cable in black, white and clear, and there are braided two core versions in red, blue, purple, lime green, black and white where the flex will be on show. How many metres will I receive?

Cable is priced per metre, so enter the number of metres you need and the whole quantity is supplied as one continuous length.

Why five cores rather than two?

An RGBW strip switches four separate channels, so it needs four conductors plus a common one. Two core cable only suits single colour strip.

What size are the conductors?

Each core is 0.5mm, which is 20 AWG.

Can I use it for the mains side of a driver?

No. It is intended for the low voltage side, between a controller or driver and the strip itself.

How do I keep the channels straight along a long run?

The cores are individually insulated and identifiable, so note which core you have taken to which pad at the first joint and follow the same order at the far end.

Will it fit inside an aluminium profile?

Yes, its overall section is slim enough to run within most strip profiles or behind a plinth.
