Description

Four core cable in 0.5mm, sold by the metre and supplied as one continuous length however many you order. Four conductors is what colour-changing work asks for: a channel for each colour plus a shared feed, all running together rather than a bundle of thin single cores taped side by side. It is slim, pliable stuff, easy to dress into tight spaces and easy to trim to the exact run in front of you.

We keep this on the shelf for RGB LED strip work: linking a controller to the start of a strip, carrying a feed from one section to the next around a corner, or picking a run back up after a gap in cove and shelf lighting. It suits anyone already working with a strip system and its controller, and it saves the fiddle of doubling up narrower cable to make the numbers up. Bought a metre at a time, it is a cheap thing to have spare in the toolbox before you begin.

It bends easily and sits flat where space is tight, taking a gentle curve without fighting back, which is what you want when a run has to follow a shelf edge or turn behind a plinth. Keep offcuts loosely coiled rather than folded hard, since a sharp crease is the quickest way to shorten a cable's working life, and wipe the ends clean before you twist or terminate them so the copper stays bright. The rest of the range runs to two core for single colour jobs, including figure of eight in black, white and clear as well as braided flex in a spread of colours, so one order can cover both the plain and the colour-changing parts of a scheme. If I order several metres, do I get separate pieces?

No. Whatever quantity you order is cut as one continuous length, so ordering 5 gives you a single 5m run.

What does 20 AWG mean here?

It is the American wire gauge equivalent of the 0.5mm conductor size, so 20 AWG and 0.5mm describe the same cable.

Why does RGB strip need four cores?

A colour-changing strip needs one conductor for each of the red, green and blue channels plus a shared feed, which is exactly what the 4 core arrangement gives you in a single cable.

Can I use it on single colour strip?

You can, using two of the four cores, though our 2 core figure of eight cable is the tidier choice for single colour runs.

How should I store what I do not use?

Coil it loosely and keep it dry. Avoid tight folds and kinks, and leave the cut ends tidy so they are ready to strip next time.
