Description

Cable is the part of a light that people forget about until it is the wrong colour. This is a round two core flex with 0.75mm conductors under a clear sheath, so the cores sit faintly visible through the covering. It is VDE approved, and however many metres you order arrive as a single continuous length rather than cut pieces. The clear sheath is what sets it apart from the black and white flex most fittings arrive with.

We reach for this where the flex is on show: a bare bulb pendant, a glass table lamp being rewired, or a floor lamp lead that has to run across pale paint where black would read as a line drawn on the wall. Clear suits chrome, nickel and clear glass fittings, and it recedes against light walls better than any coloured sheath. It is also what we use for repairs, since a tired flex is often the only reason a much loved lamp has been shut away in a cupboard.

The sheath is smooth and slim in section at 6mm across, flexible enough to coil without kinking. Keep it away from hot lamp bodies and hot surfaces, give it a wipe with a dry cloth if it gathers dust, and retire any length that has been nicked, crushed or pulled hard rather than patching it. Colour choice is part of the styling here, not an afterthought, so we stock the same gauge in black and white PVC and in braided sheaths across several colours, and clear flat cable in heavier sizes where a fitting asks for more.
