The Carson is a 673mm diameter spherical outdoor chandelier built from overlapping curved metal ribbons in a vintage iron finish, forming an open framework around five E14 bulb holders fitted with clear seeded glass shades. The metal bands intersect at random angles to create an orbital silhouette that casts patterned shadows when lit, while the seeded glass diffuses direct glare from the bulbs.

Designed for covered outdoor areas including patios, verandas, pergolas and entrance porticos, the Carson carries an IP44 rating protecting against water spray from any direction but not direct rain or immersion. The 832mm minimum drop suits ceiling heights from 2.4m upward, with the chain adjustable on installation to a maximum 1596mm drop for taller spaces. The five-light configuration provides task and ambient lighting across a 2-3m diameter outdoor dining table or seating arrangement.

The vintage iron finish is a dark brown-grey tone with surface variation that mimics aged wrought iron, pairing with traditional, colonial and rustic-industrial exteriors. Each metal ribbon is handcrafted and welded at the intersections, giving the frame rigidity without cross-bracing. The clear seeded glass contains small bubbles and texture throughout, characteristic of hand-blown or reproduction antique glass styles. The combined metal frame, glass shades, chain and canopy weigh approximately 8-10kg, requiring secure fixing to a ceiling joist or reinforced mounting point.

What bulbs does the Carson take?

The chandelier takes five E14 small Edison screw bulbs, each up to 40W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for outdoor ambiance.

Can it be used in fully exposed outdoor areas?

The IP44 rating protects against water spray from any direction but not direct rain or full weather exposure. The Carson is designed for covered outdoor areas such as porches, verandas, pergolas and covered patios where there is overhead protection from heavy rain.

How is the drop adjusted?

The chain length is adjusted during installation by removing or adding chain links to achieve the desired drop between 832mm and 1596mm. Once installed the drop is fixed unless the fitting is taken down and re-adjusted.

What ceiling height is needed?

With the 832mm minimum drop and 690mm fitting height, a ceiling of at least 2.4m is needed to provide adequate head clearance beneath the chandelier. For outdoor dining the fitting typically hangs 700-900mm above the table surface.
