Description

The Carson is a 470mm spherical outdoor chandelier built from overlapping curved metal bands in a vintage iron finish, with three clear seedy glass cylinder shades at the centre. Each shade houses an E14 candle bulb (sold separately, max 40W per socket), and the seeded texture in the glass diffuses the light while retaining the filament silhouette for decorative effect when lit.

Designed for covered outdoor spaces — porches, pergolas, covered patios, exterior entrance halls — the Carson carries an IP44 rating, protecting against splashing water and solid objects down to 1mm. The chandelier is not suitable for fully exposed positions under direct rainfall. The 470mm sphere suits porch areas between 2.5-3.5m wide, and the adjustable drop from 703mm to 1316mm allows the fitting to be set at the correct height above furniture or entryway floors during installation. The chain conceals the cable run and the canopy fits standard UK ceiling roses.

The vintage iron finish on the metal bands is a slightly bronzed brown-grey tone with subtle surface variation that mimics aged forged metal, pairing well with natural stone, timber cladding, exposed brick and other traditional exterior materials. The handcrafted ribbon structure means each Carson chandelier shows minor variation in how the bands cross and overlap — this is a feature of the construction method, not a defect. Can this be used in fully exposed outdoor positions?

No. The IP44 rating protects against splashing water but not direct rainfall or heavy weather exposure. The Carson is designed for covered outdoor spaces such as porches, pergolas, covered patios and exterior entrance halls where it remains sheltered from direct rain.

What bulbs does it take?

Three E14 candle bulbs, each rated up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for outdoor entertaining areas.

How is the drop adjusted?

The chain length is set during installation by removing or adding links before the fitting is wired in. The minimum drop of 703mm and maximum of 1316mm are measured from ceiling rose to the base of the fitting.

What size porch does it suit?

The 470mm sphere diameter suits porches or covered outdoor areas between 2.5-3.5m wide. In narrower spaces the fitting may feel oversized; in spaces wider than 4m it may appear undersized unless paired with additional wall lights.
