Description

The Canto is a 1000mm linear pendant with five E27 bulb holders mounted within a polished nickel open-frame cage, each fitted with a clear cylindrical glass shade. The rectangular frame measures 1000mm along its length and 260mm across, suspending the five light sources at equal intervals along a central rail. The polished nickel finish on the metalwork reflects ambient light and gives a high-shine accent against the clear glass.

Designed for positioning above kitchen islands, dining tables and workspace counters where linear coverage is needed, the Canto provides directed downlight along the length of a surface rather than radiating in all directions. The adjustable drop ranges from 330mm minimum to 1330mm maximum, allowing the fitting to be raised or lowered to suit ceiling heights from standard 2.4m residential rooms to taller commercial or loft spaces. At the 700-900mm height above a worktop or table that most users install it at, the five bulbs provide even task lighting without creating shadows in the middle of the run.

The open cage construction means the bulbs and glass shades are visible from all angles, so the choice of bulb affects the appearance, clear Edison-style filament bulbs accentuate the industrial frame, while frosted or opal LED bulbs soften the light and reduce glare when seated at eye level with the fitting. The polished nickel frame pairs with stainless steel appliances, chrome taps and handles, and cooler-toned grey or white interiors. The 5kg weight requires secure ceiling fixing into a joist or reinforced ceiling rose.

The Canto takes five E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each, sold separately. Most users pair this with LED bulbs between 6-10W in either clear filament style to match the industrial frame, or frosted/opal finish to reduce glare when seated at eye level with the fitting.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, provided you use dimmable E27 bulbs and pair the fitting with a compatible LED dimmer switch. The fitting itself has no built-in dimming electronics, so dimmer compatibility depends entirely on the bulbs you choose.

What height above a kitchen island or dining table?

Most installations position the bottom of the glass shades 700-900mm above the worktop or table surface. This gives even task lighting without the bulbs sitting in the sightline of seated diners. The adjustable drop from 330mm to 1330mm allows the fitting to be raised or lowered depending on ceiling height.

What ceiling fixing is needed?

The Canto weighs 5kg, so it must be fixed into a ceiling joist or attached to a reinforced ceiling rose rated for the weight. A standard plasterboard ceiling rose without reinforcement is not adequate for this fitting.
