Candor Rise & Fall Pendant Light - Matte White & Burnished Brass

The Candor is a 432mm rise-and-fall pendant light with a metal-spun matte white shade suspended on a black fabric cord through a burnished brass counterweight mechanism. The counterweight sits inside a vertical brass cylinder mounted on the ceiling rose, allowing the pendant height to be adjusted between 626mm and 3658mm after installation by pulling the shade down or lifting it upwards. An E27 lampholder sits inside the shade, casting downward task light (bulb sold separately, up to 60W).

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and work surfaces where adjustable task lighting is needed, the Candor pairs the clean geometry of mid-century pendant design with the functional advantage of variable drop. The rise-and-fall mechanism means a single fixture can serve multiple uses — lowered to 700mm above a dining table for intimate evening meals, raised to 1200mm for ambient lighting during the day, or set at worktop height over a kitchen island. The 4572mm cable run provides enough length to accommodate high ceilings and deep adjustment range.

The matte white powder-coated steel shade gives a soft, low-glare finish that hides fingerprints and minor scuffs, while the burnished brass hardware provides warmth without the high reflectivity of polished brass. The counterweight cylinder doubles as a visual accent — its vertical brass line interrupts the ceiling plane and signals the adjustable function before you touch the fitting. The black fabric cord running through the brass mechanism adds tonal contrast and conceals the cable between ceiling and shade.

The 432mm diameter shade suits rooms with 3m+ ceilings and tables or islands 1200-1800mm in length. Smaller rooms or lower ceilings may find the shade visually dominant when lowered to minimum drop, but the ability to raise the fitting means it adapts to different ceiling heights more gracefully than fixed-drop pendants. The shade interior is white, maximising light reflection downwards and reducing shadowing inside the bowl.

How does the rise-and-fall mechanism work?

The pendant hangs on a black fabric cord threaded through a brass counterweight cylinder mounted on the ceiling rose. To adjust height, pull the shade downwards to lower it or lift it upwards to raise it. The counterweight inside the brass cylinder balances the shade weight, holding it at the chosen position without needing to lock or clamp the cord.

What bulb does it take?

The Candor takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for dining or task lighting. The shade directs light downwards, so a standard A60 or globe-style bulb works well.

Can the height be adjusted after installation?

Yes. The specification lists height as adjustable 'on installation', but the rise-and-fall mechanism allows continuous adjustment between 626mm and 3658mm drop at any time after fitting. You do not need to re-wire or access the ceiling rose to change the pendant height.

What size table or island does it suit?

The 432mm shade diameter suits tables or kitchen islands between 1200mm and 1800mm in length. For longer islands or tables, multiple Candor pendants spaced 800-1000mm apart provide more even light distribution than a single fitting.
