Description
The Cambridge is a 735mm-diameter six-light chandelier cast in solid brass with a burnished finish, suspended on a 1524mm adjustable chain from a beaded ceiling rose. Six curved arms extend from a central brass column and ball finial, each terminating in a drip tray, turned candle sleeve and E14 bulb holder. The brass components are cast rather than stamped, giving the chandelier a substantial 8-9kg weight and allowing the fine beaded detailing around the canopy, drip trays and central column to be raised and defined.
Designed for dining rooms, entrance halls and living rooms with ceiling heights of 2.6m or above, the Cambridge provides ambient light through six E14 candle bulbs (sold separately, 40W maximum each). The minimum drop of 810mm places the chandelier approximately 600mm above a dining table in a room with a 2.4m ceiling, while the maximum 2295mm drop accommodates higher ceilings in period properties and double-height hallways. The chain length is adjustable on installation, allowing the fitting to be set at the required height during electrical installation.
The burnished brass finish is darker and warmer than polished brass, with a low-lustre surface that reduces reflections under daylight. The finish develops a natural patina over time, deepening the brass tone in areas exposed to air circulation. The six-arm configuration distributes light evenly across a 3-4m dining table or a 5m entrance hall, with the central column and ball finial providing a vertical anchor that balances the horizontal spread of the arms. The chandelier is from Hinkley's Cambridge collection, which also includes matching wall lights and smaller chandeliers in the same cast brass style.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Cambridge take?
The chandelier takes six E14 small Edison screw candle bulbs, 40W maximum per socket. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K for traditional interiors, or clear filament-style LED bulbs where visible bulb detail is preferred.
What ceiling height is needed?
The minimum drop of 810mm works in rooms with 2.4m ceilings when hung over a dining table, positioning the chandelier approximately 600-700mm above the table surface. For entrance halls or rooms with higher ceilings, the 1524mm chain can be used at full length or shortened during installation to suit ceiling heights up to 3.5m.
Is the chain length adjustable?
Yes. The chain is adjusted during electrical installation by removing excess links. Once installed, the chandelier hangs at a fixed height unless the electrician returns to adjust it. The adjustment is made before the ceiling rose cover is fixed in place.
How is the burnished brass maintained?
Burnished brass develops a natural patina over time, deepening in tone where exposed to air. This is a characteristic of the finish, not a defect. To maintain the original tone, wipe occasionally with a dry microfibre cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a barely-damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not use brass polish or chemical cleaners, as these will strip the burnished finish back to bright polished brass.
