Description

The Byron is a 457mm outdoor wall lantern with a graphite-finished metal frame, clear bevelled glass panels on four sides, and a grey metal reflector disc positioned behind the E27 bulb fitting. The reflector directs light forward through the glass while adding a warm tonal cast to the light output, particularly when paired with a warm-white or amber filament bulb (sold separately).

Designed for installation on exterior walls at doorways, porches, garage entries and covered patios, the Byron carries an IP44 rating for protection against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for positions under eaves or in alcoves that provide some overhead shelter. The 216mm projection from the wall gives clearance for the bulb and reflector assembly inside the glass box, while the 254mm width provides presence on a standard front door surround or garage wall without dominating smaller facades.

The graphite finish is a dark charcoal grey with a subtle satin sheen that reads almost black in low light but shows its grey tone under daylight. The bevelled edges on the glass panels catch and refract light at the corners of the lantern, creating additional sparkle when the bulb is lit. The grey reflector behind the bulb softens the contrast between the dark frame and the light source, preventing harsh silhouetting of the bulb against the metal back plate. The E27 socket accepts standard Edison screw bulbs up to 60W, giving flexibility to choose between LED, halogen or decorative filament styles depending on the desired light quality and energy use.

Can this be used in fully exposed positions outdoors?

The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, making the Byron suitable for positions under eaves, covered porches and alcoves. It is not rated for fully exposed positions subject to direct rainfall or driving wind, such as an open wall with no overhead shelter.

What bulb is recommended?

The E27 socket accepts any standard Edison screw bulb up to 60W. For a warm, inviting output that complements the grey reflector, pair the lantern with a 6-8W warm-white LED filament bulb at 2700K. For a brighter, crisper light, a standard LED bulb at 3000K and 10W works well.

How is the lantern mounted?

The Byron mounts via a back plate fixed to the wall with screws and plugs (supplied). The glass housing then fixes to the back plate. Wiring is concealed behind the back plate and connected inside the lantern before the glass is secured.

Does the grey reflector affect the light colour?

The grey reflector adds a slight warm cast to the light output by diffusing and softening the direct light from the bulb. It does not change the colour temperature of the bulb itself, but it reduces the contrast between the bright bulb and the dark graphite frame, creating a more cohesive appearance when lit.
