Description
This sitting squirrel figurine catches a familiar woodland visitor in a moment of stillness, perched upright on its haunches with both front paws raised and a bushy tail curling up behind its back. It is made from polystone, a resin, and the whole coat is textured into tufts and strands, from the soft fur on its cheeks to the long, layered sweep of the tail. The colour is a warm russet brown, with a white chest and muzzle, pale streaks along the underside of the tail, small dark eyes and pink-tinged inner ears. It stands 12cm tall, 12cm across and 6.5cm deep, so it is small enough to tuck onto a crowded shelf yet detailed enough to reward a closer look.
We like it on a bookcase between rows of books, on a mantelpiece, a windowsill or the corner of a desk, where its raised paws and alert face give the impression it has just paused to look around. It suits a cottage-style room or a kitchen dresser, and it sits happily among houseplants, pine cones and other natural pieces for an autumn display that can stay out all year. Its pose reads well from the front, the side and even the back, where the curl of the tail is the main feature, so it works on an open shelf as well as against a wall.
The figurine rests on its feet, haunches and tail, so it stands on its own on any flat surface and needs no fixing. To keep the fur detail looking crisp, dust it with a soft dry brush or cloth, which reaches into the textured coat, and wipe it with a barely damp cloth when needed, then let it dry. It makes a cheerful gift just as it is, or set it beside a small plant or a favourite book for a present with a woodland theme.
