Description

The Brompton is a 280mm flush ceiling light with a polished chrome stepped frame and an opal glass diffuser, taking a single GX53 bulb (sold separately). The three-tier chrome rim sits flush to the ceiling with minimal projection, making it suitable for rooms with ceiling heights below 2.4m where a pendant would hang too low.

Designed for bathrooms, hallways and bedrooms needing even ambient light, the Brompton carries an IP44 rating, meaning it resists splashing water and can be installed in bathroom zones 2 and 3 (outside the immediate shower enclosure). The opal glass sits behind the chrome frame and diffuses light evenly across the ceiling plane rather than projecting it downwards, reducing harsh shadows in smaller spaces.

The polished chrome finish gives a mirror-like reflective surface that works in both traditional and contemporary bathrooms, particularly those with chrome taps, towel rails or shower fittings. The steel frame is pressed and welded rather than cast, keeping the weight down to under 1kg while maintaining rigidity. The GX53 bulb format is a flat disc rather than a standard bayonet or screw, giving the fitting a lower overall ceiling projection than E27 or B22 flush lights.

Frequently Asked

Is the Brompton suitable for bathrooms?

Yes. The IP44 rating means it resists splashing water and can be installed in bathroom zones 2 and 3. It is not rated for zone 1 (directly above a bath or inside a shower enclosure).

What bulb does it take?

The Brompton takes a single GX53 bulb, which is a flat disc format with two pins. GX53 LED bulbs are widely available in warm white (2700K-3000K) and typically consume 5-9W. Bulbs are sold separately.

What is the ceiling projection?

The GX53 bulb format and shallow opal glass diffuser give the Brompton a lower ceiling projection than standard E27 or B22 flush lights, typically around 60-70mm from ceiling to glass face depending on the bulb used.

How is the glass cleaned?

Switch off the mains supply, allow the bulb to cool, then twist the opal glass cover anti-clockwise to release it from the chrome frame. Wipe with a damp microfibre cloth and dry before refitting.
