Description

The Brompton is a flush ceiling light with a stepped polished brass rim around an opal glass diffuser, designed for rooms with low ceilings where projection needs to be minimal. The brass rim has three concentric stepped rings that catch light at different angles, giving depth to what would otherwise be a flat ceiling profile. The fitting takes a single GX53 LED bulb (sold separately) mounted inside the opal glass bowl.

Rated IP44, the Brompton is suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3, hallways, bedrooms, and landing ceilings where headroom is restricted or a lower-profile fitting is preferred over a pendant or semi-flush. The opal glass diffuses the light evenly across the ceiling plane, avoiding the spotlit effect of a bare bulb or clear shade. The stepped brass detail references 1930s Art Deco proportions without the bulk of period reproduction fittings.

The polished brass finish is mirror-bright and will develop a natural patina over time in humid environments unless regularly polished. The steel backplate mounts to a standard UK ceiling rose with the glass diffuser held in place by a threaded collar that screws onto the brass rim. The entire fitting projects approximately 90mm from the ceiling once installed, giving clearance above a bath or shower tray in typical UK bathroom ceiling heights of 2.3-2.5m.

The Brompton takes a single GX53 LED bulb. GX53 is a flat, disc-shaped LED bulb approximately 75mm in diameter and 25mm deep, common in low-profile ceiling fittings. Bulbs are sold separately. A warm white 2700K-3000K bulb between 5-7W is typical for bathroom or bedroom use.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

Yes. The IP44 rating protects against splashing water, making the Brompton suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3. Zone 2 covers areas within 60cm of a bath or shower; zone 3 is the rest of the bathroom beyond that radius. It cannot be used in zone 1 (directly above a bath or shower) or zone 0 (inside the bath/shower enclosure itself).

How is the glass cleaned?

Unscrew the threaded collar holding the glass diffuser in place, remove the glass bowl, and wash in warm soapy water. Dry thoroughly before refitting. Clean the brass rim with a soft cloth; use brass polish if you want to maintain the mirror finish, or leave it to develop a natural patina.

Can it be dimmed?

Dimming depends on the GX53 bulb you fit. Some GX53 LED bulbs are dimmable; others are not. Check the bulb packaging before pairing with a dimmer switch.
