Description

The Brolvelle is a black pendant light with a faceted steel cage for a shade. Flat strips of metal run in angled lines across each panel, so the shade reads as a geometric lantern rather than a solid dome. It hangs on a slim black cord from a round black ceiling rose, and the lampholder sits at the top of the cage with the bulb in full view. The light is 110cm tall overall and 33cm in diameter. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 40W, and the bulb is not included. With an IP20 rating it belongs indoors, in rooms that stay dry.

Because the cage is open, light falls through it and casts a pattern of lines across nearby walls, which is the real pleasure of a wire shade. We would hang it over a coffee table, a sideboard or a reading chair in a living room, where a single pendant gives the space a clear focal point. The black finish sits well against warm neutrals, pale timber and rattan, and gives a soft, calm room a crisp outline. Choose a clear or amber filament bulb and the cage and the bulb work together, since the bulb is always on show.

The body is steel in a black finish. Steel is strong and keeps its shape, so the angled strips of the cage hold their lines. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall and runs on a 220-240V, 50/60Hz supply.
