Description

The Brolbine is a wall light with a black steel frame and a rounded shade of vaporised grey glass. A round backplate fixes to the wall, and a slim tubular arm rises and curves over to carry the shade by its crown, so the glass hangs clear of the wall like a small lantern. The vaporised finish gives the grey glass a smoky, mirror-like sheen. It stands 22cm high, measures 15cm in length and projects 22cm from the wall. It takes a standard E27 screw bulb of up to 28W, and the bulb is not included, so you can choose the colour and warmth of light you prefer. It is rated IP20, which means it is made for dry rooms indoors.

Being IP20, the Brolbine belongs in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and landings, and is not one for bathrooms or outdoor walls. We like a pair either side of a bed as a neat alternative to bedside lamps, freeing the tabletops, while a single light beside a dressing table or over a sideboard adds a soft glow at eye level. The black and smoky grey pairing sits comfortably with dark timber, brass or plain white walls, so it suits a modern or industrial scheme as readily as a quieter one. Because the shade hangs forward of the arm, the glass becomes the focal point of the wall whether the bulb is lit or not.

The frame is steel in a black finish, and the shade is grey glass with a vaporised finish. There is no switch on the light itself, so it is switched at the wall, and as a wired-in mains light it should be installed by a qualified electrician.
