Description

The Bridge Point is a 178mm outdoor chain lantern with a weathered zinc aluminium body, seeded glass globe and protective metal cage. The lantern takes a single E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately) behind clear textured glass that diffuses light while maintaining brightness. A chain suspension allows height adjustment between 372mm and 2237mm on installation.

Designed for covered outdoor spaces including porches, entryways, pergolas and patio overhangs, the lantern carries an IP44 rating for protection against rain splash and dust. The weathered zinc finish is a low-sheen grey metal that weathers naturally over time, developing a patina that suits coastal, traditional and industrial-style exteriors. The cage protects the glass from accidental contact and adds a railway-lantern aesthetic to the form.

The aluminium body resists corrosion in outdoor conditions better than steel equivalents, while the seeded glass texture scatters light to reduce glare from exposed filament or LED bulbs. The 272mm fitting height and 178mm diameter suit standard porch ceilings and side-entrance canopies where a compact lantern is needed. The chain adjusts during fitting by removing links, with the canopy concealing excess chain above the ceiling rose.

What bulb should I use?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Most users choose a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K to replicate traditional lantern light. Filament-style LED bulbs pair well with the seeded glass and cage design. Bulbs are sold separately.

Can the chain length be adjusted after installation?

No. The chain length is set during installation by removing links to achieve the desired drop between 372mm and 2237mm. Once the canopy is fixed to the ceiling, the chain cannot be adjusted without taking the fitting down and re-installing.

Will the weathered zinc finish change over time?

Yes. Weathered zinc develops a natural patina when exposed to outdoor conditions, becoming slightly darker and more textured. This is characteristic of the finish and part of its appeal in coastal and traditional settings.
