Description

The Bowery is an outdoor wall light built around two cylindrical aluminium housings arranged vertically, each finished in black powder coat and banded with brushed brass detailing. Each cylinder holds a GU10 fitting (bulbs sold separately), with one directing light upwards and the other downwards to create bidirectional wash across the wall surface. The brass bands separate the black aluminium bodies and provide the mounting point between the fixture and the wall bracket.

Designed for exterior walls on front entrances, side gates, courtyard passageways and garage approaches, the Bowery works where both task lighting and decorative accent are needed after dark. The IP54 rating protects the internal components from dust ingress and water splashing from any direction, making the fitting suitable for exposed positions under eaves or in open courtyards. The sealed safety glass at each light aperture prevents moisture reaching the GU10 sockets and allows the fitting to remain outdoors year-round.

The black and brass finish combination pairs well with modern and industrial architecture, particularly on dark render, brick, timber cladding and painted masonry. The compact 18cm height and 9.5cm width project approximately 6.4cm from the wall once installed, giving presence without dominating narrow pathways or tight entrance alcoves. Each GU10 socket accepts bulbs up to 50W, allowing flexibility to choose warm white, cool white or colour-changing LED bulbs depending on the application.

Frequently Asked

What does IP54 mean for outdoor use?

IP54 means the fitting is protected against dust ingress and water splashing from any direction. It can be installed in exposed outdoor positions including under eaves, on courtyard walls and near doorways where rain may reach it, but should not be installed where it will be submerged or hit by pressurised water jets.

What bulbs does it take?

Each cylinder takes one GU10 bulb up to 50W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose warm white LED GU10s between 5-7W and 2700K-3000K for residential front doors and pathways.

Does the light shine up and down equally?

Yes. Both cylinders contain identical GU10 fittings, so the upward and downward light output is symmetrical assuming you fit the same bulb wattage and colour temperature in both sockets. Bulb choice controls the balance — fitting a brighter bulb in the lower socket provides more downward illumination for pathways.

Can it be installed on timber cladding?

Yes. The wall bracket fixes with standard screws to masonry, render, brick or timber. On timber cladding, ensure the screws penetrate into structural timber behind the cladding boards rather than just the face boards themselves.
