Description

A ceiling rose, 75cm tall, in black. At 8cm wide it is about the width of a laptop.

Dark surfaces show dust and light surfaces show marks. Which is the easier problem depends entirely on the room, and dust is usually the easier one. The trade name for this is a ceiling rose. It covers the hole the cable comes out of, carries the flex and holds the lampholder, which is why one of these plus a shade is a complete pendant. Cast and wrought iron are heavy by nature, and that weight is doing a job: it keeps the piece where it is put rather than shifting every time something brushes past. Iron also holds a hand-worked line that a machine-pressed metal cannot. Moulded plastic is light and unbothered by being knocked, which is what makes it sensible where something will be handled or moved often. It will chalk slightly after years of direct sun.

E27 lampholder, 1 of them, and no bulb in the box. Because it is E27, bulbs are stocked everywhere and you are never tied to one supplier. It is dimmable, so the level is set at the wall rather than fixed at the bulb. The cable is black. It hangs from 15cm, so it clears a table without cutting the sightline. A GLS shaped bulb, which is the word to look for on the box.

It needs nothing beyond dusting, and a damp cloth on the finish rather than anything solvent.
