Description

The Bern is a 245mm square outdoor wall light with a black powder-coated galvanised steel frame, frosted glass diffuser and a single E27 bulb fitting. Two curved black metal bars run horizontally across the frosted glass face, creating a geometric Art Deco profile. The IP54 rating protects the fitting from dust and moisture ingress, making it suitable for UK weather across all seasons.

Designed for house walls, porch entryways, covered patios and garage exteriors, the Bern mounts flush to the wall with a 120mm projection from the mounting surface. The frosted glass diffuses the light source, softening direct bulb glare and casting a warm glow across adjacent surfaces. The fitting accepts any E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W (bulb sold separately), and is compatible with dimmable bulbs when paired with an appropriate outdoor-rated dimmer.

The galvanised steel construction resists corrosion under prolonged exposure to rain, coastal air and temperature fluctuation. The black powder-coated finish is applied over the galvanised layer, giving both UV resistance and a matt surface that sits comfortably against dark brickwork, painted render and timber cladding. The square fascia and twin horizontal bars give the Bern a defined geometric silhouette that pairs with both period and contemporary architecture. What does the IP54 rating mean?

IP54 means the fitting is protected against dust ingress (level 5) and water splashes from any direction (level 4). This makes it suitable for outdoor use in UK weather, including rain, but not for direct water jets or submersion. The rating covers normal exposure on house walls, porches and covered patios.

What bulb should I use?

The Bern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for outdoor ambience. The frosted glass diffuses the light source, so filament-style decorative bulbs work as well as standard LED bulbs. Bulbs are sold separately.

Is it dimmable?

The fitting itself is compatible with dimmable bulbs. You will need an outdoor-rated dimmer switch on the circuit and a dimmable LED or halogen bulb. Not all LED bulbs dim smoothly, so check the bulb specification before purchase.

How is the black finish maintained?

The powder-coated galvanised steel requires minimal maintenance. Wipe down the frame and glass with a damp cloth once or twice a year to remove dirt and cobwebs. Avoid abrasive cleaners or metal scourers, which can scratch the powder coating.
