Description

A wall light, 48cm tall, in antique silver. At 28cm wide it is about the width of a laptop. A wall light is fixed, so its position is permanent. Decide it against the furniture that will sit beneath it rather than against an empty wall.

A cool colour recedes: it makes a piece read as further away and a room as larger, which is why cool tones suit small spaces better than their reputation for coldness suggests.

It takes 2 E14 screw-fit bulbs up to 6-9W LED. E14 is the commonest fitting on any supermarket shelf, so replacements are never a hunt. It is dimmable, so the level is set at the wall rather than fixed at the bulb. A Candle shaped bulb, which is the word to look for on the box.

Class 1 means an earthed connection, so it wants an electrician rather than a plug socket.

The light you actually see is the light that comes THROUGH the shade, not the light from the bulb. That is why the same bulb reads warm behind a cream fabric and cold behind a white one. A fabric shade fades from the inside out rather than the outside in, because the bulb is closer than the window. A lining slows that considerably, which is most of what a lining is for. Height is the decision people regret: beside a bed, the bottom of the shade wants to be at seated head height, which is lower than it looks on an empty wall.
