Bedford Outdoor 1 Light Medium Wall Lantern - Black

The Bedford is a medium-sized outdoor wall lantern built from a black composite material with clear seedy glass panels and a pagoda-style roof. The lantern houses a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately) behind glass that shows deliberate air bubbles and texture, giving the piece a hand-blown appearance. The IP44 rating makes it suitable for uncovered exterior positions where it will encounter rain and dust but not direct water jets.

Designed for front porches, side entrances, garage walls and patio mounting, the Bedford projects 241mm from the wall and stands 391mm tall, making it visible from street level without dominating a typical single-storey entrance. The black composite frame resists UV degradation, temperature extremes and moisture penetration better than painted steel or aluminium, and won't corrode in coastal or high-humidity environments. The wall mount is a traditional scrolled arm with a decorative backplate that covers a standard UK electrical box.

The seedy glass diffuses light evenly across the lantern's four faces, reducing glare while maintaining enough output for safe navigation around doorways and pathways. The pagoda roof sheds rainwater away from the glass panels and prevents pooling on top of the fixture. The black finish pairs with traditional brick, render, timber cladding and stone facades, and works alongside other black or dark-finished exterior metalwork such as guttering, downpipes and railings. Quoizel backs the Bedford with a 5-year guarantee covering material and finish defects.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 means the lantern is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction. This makes it suitable for uncovered walls where it will encounter rain and dust, but not for positions where it will be hit by direct water jets from hoses or pressure washers.

What bulb does it take?

The Bedford takes one E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for porch lighting, or a filament-style LED for a more traditional appearance behind the seedy glass.

Can it be mounted on a rendered or brick wall?

Yes. The backplate is designed to sit flush against flat exterior walls including render, brick, stone and timber cladding. The lantern requires a standard UK outdoor electrical box recessed into the wall, with cabling routed through the backplate mounting holes.

What is the composite material?

The frame is made from a high-grade polymer composite that resists UV degradation, temperature extremes and moisture better than painted metal. It will not rust, corrode or flake in coastal or high-humidity environments, making it a low-maintenance alternative to steel or aluminium outdoor fittings.
