Description

The Bedford is a 322mm outdoor wall lantern built from a weather-resistant composite material with a black finish, housing a single E27 bulb fitting behind seeded clear glass panels. The lantern carries an IP44 rating, protecting it against splashing water and solid objects larger than 1mm, making it suitable for uncovered porches, doorways and patio walls exposed to rain.

Designed for mounting beside front doors, garage entrances and garden pathways, the Bedford provides ambient outdoor lighting with a 203mm projection from the wall. The seeded glass diffuses the light from the E27 bulb (sold separately) while creating a textured glow visible through the glass panels from multiple angles. The lantern accepts any E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W, allowing control over light temperature and brightness.

The composite frame construction handles freeze-thaw cycles and UV exposure without cracking or fading in the way painted metal lanterns can. The black finish has a low-sheen texture that hides dust and weathering marks better than gloss finishes. The traditional lantern proportions — pagoda-style roof, gothic arch detailing on the glazing bars, scroll wall bracket — pair with Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture as well as newer traditional-style builds.

Can this be used in uncovered locations?

Yes. The IP44 rating protects the lantern against rain and splashing water from any direction, so it can be mounted on uncovered porches, doorways and patio walls. It is not submersible and should not be installed where it will be directly hosed or power-washed.

What bulb does it take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for porch lighting.

Is the seeded glass easy to clean?

The seeded texture creates small dimples in the glass surface which can trap dust and pollen over time. Wipe with a damp microfibre cloth and rinse with clean water. Avoid abrasive cleaners which can scratch the textured surface.

What is the composite material?

Quoizel Bedford lanterns use a polymer composite designed to resist UV degradation, freeze-thaw cracking and impact damage. This material is lighter than cast aluminium and does not corrode, making it well-suited to exposed outdoor installations in UK climates.
