Description

The shade here is a straight drum, 40cm across, wrapped in silver foil with a white laminate lining that keeps the light warm rather than cold. A frosted acrylic diffuser closes off the base, so the lamp is softened and the glare kept out of the eye. Above it sits a polished chrome suspension and ceiling plate, picking up the silver of the shade. There is a single E27 lampholder inside, and we would fit an LED GLS lamp of up to 20W in it.

It earns its place over a dining table or a kitchen island, where that diffused base matters most, and it is just as good in a hallway, a landing or above a reading chair. The drop is adjustable and extends to a maximum of 3.31m, so a tall stairwell is no obstacle and a standard ceiling is easily managed by shortening the flex. It will dim with a compatible lamp and a suitable dimmer, neither of which comes with it. This is one we point people towards when they want a little shine without going to a mirrored finish.

Acrylic and laminate rather than glass keeps the whole fitting light on its flex, and the polished chrome holds a clean reflection against the foil above it. To clean, switch off at the wall and let things cool, then take dust off the shade with a soft brush or the upholstery tool on a vacuum. The chrome likes a barely damp cloth followed by a dry one; keep abrasive creams and solvents away from the acrylic, which scratches and clouds easily. Rated for dry indoor rooms, it is not one for a bathroom zone or a porch.
