Description

Five lamps sit beneath a broad drum shade of white faux silk, held on an antique brass frame that stays close to the ceiling. The shade measures 45cm across, wide enough to spread light through a room rather than pool it in one place, and the pale lining keeps the tone soft. It takes E27 lamps, and with suitable lamps and a dimmer on the circuit the light can be brought down for the evening.

We would hang this where a pendant would sit too low: a landing, a hall with a modest ceiling, a bedroom above the foot of the bed. Five lamps give it enough output to cover a dining table or a mid sized sitting room on its own, though it also works turned low alongside table lamps. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, so bedrooms, halls and living rooms rather than a bathroom or a covered porch. LED GLS lamps rated up to 20W each suit it best.

The metalwork is finished in antique brass, warm and gently aged against the white fabric, and the shade is lined in white laminate. Dust the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum on its lowest setting, and wipe the brass now and then with a dry cloth once everything has cooled; keep water and sprays off the shade. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included. The wider range runs to single light semi flush fittings and linear pendants in antique brass, polished chrome and satin nickel, useful if you want the same finish carried from the hall through to the table.
