Description

A wide drum shade sitting close to the ceiling, carried on a satin nickel frame with five E27 lampholders ranged inside it. The fabric is a dual faux silk, raw cocoa on the outer face and grecian bronze within, so the colour warms the moment the light goes on. A frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside, spreading the output evenly and keeping the lampholders out of sight from below. At 60cm across it reads as a broad, calm circle rather than a fitting you look up at.

We reach for this where a room wants the presence of a large pendant and has no height to spare: a dining table under an ordinary ceiling, a wide landing, a main bedroom, a sitting room where a hanging shade would sit in the way. With that many lamps behind the diffuser it will light a whole room on its own, and it dims if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer. It suits warmer schemes especially well, where the cocoa and bronze fabric can pick up wood, leather or brick.

The frame is metal, finished in satin nickel that stays soft rather than bright, which keeps the attention on the fabric above it. Dust the shade with a soft brush now and then, and wipe the diffuser and frame with a dry cloth once the lamps have gone cold. Each lampholder takes up to 20W, and an LED GLS lamp is what we would fit; lamps are not supplied. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range runs to plain flush and semi flush frames sold without shades, in finishes from polished chrome to satin black, along with linear pendants for a long table, so you can dress those as you like.
