Description

Five lamps sit behind a wide drum of ivory pearl faux silk, held close to the ceiling on a polished chrome frame. The shade is 45cm across, so light spreads sideways as much as down, and the white laminate lining keeps the tone clean and bright. Chrome shows at the centre and around the lower edge, giving the fabric something crisp to sit against. Seen from below it reads as a soft disc of light rather than a hanging shape, which is much of its appeal in a room with an ordinary ceiling height.

We reach for one of these where a pendant would hang too low: a hall with a stair turn, a bedroom, a landing, or a small dining table in a flat. Spreading the light across several sockets means each lamp can stay modest, and each takes up to 20W, with GLS shapes suiting the depth of the shade best. Dimming is possible if you pair compatible lamps with a suitable dimmer, neither of which comes with the fitting. It is wired for ordinary household mains and belongs in dry rooms rather than bathrooms or covered porches.

The frame is metal under its polished plating and the shade is fabric over a laminate lining, so the fitting stays reassuringly light for its width. Dust the fabric with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head on low suction, and bring the chrome back with a dry microfibre cloth; sprays and solvents mark both the weave and the plating, so leave them in the cupboard. It carries a one year warranty. The rest of the range takes a different approach, offering bare flush plates, drop flushes and linear pendants meant for shades of your own choosing, in satin nickel, antique brass and satin black alongside chrome and white.
