Description

A broad, shallow drum in dual faux silk sits close to the ceiling, raw cocoa on the outer face and Grecian bronze on the inner, with an antique brass fixture above and a frosted acrylic diffuser closing the underside. Five E27 lamps sit behind that diffuser, so light arrives downwards as a soft, even glow while the shade lends a warmer tone to what spills out at the sides. At 60cm across it is a large fitting, but the shallow body keeps it held near the ceiling.

It is a fitting we suggest where a pendant would hang too low to be comfortable: a hallway with a low ceiling, a landing, a dining room where heads pass beneath, or a bedroom that wants soft general light rather than a bright centre. The spread suits rooms of a decent size, and the diffuser means you are not looking straight at bare lamps from a sofa or a bed. We would fit LED GLS lamps rated up to 20W each. It will dim, given suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer, neither of which is supplied.

The finish is antique brass, the diffuser acrylic, and the shade dual faux silk, the bronze lining lending depth to the cocoa outer face. Keep it fresh with a soft brush or a vacuum nozzle held just off the silk; the diffuser and the brass take a barely damp cloth, once everything has cooled and the power is off. Switch off at the wall and let the lamps go cold. Lift dust from the faux silk with a soft brush or a vacuum nozzle held slightly away from the fabric, then wipe the acrylic diffuser and the brass with a cloth just damp, drying straight after.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and weighs 2.7kg, and it belongs in dry rooms such as hallways, bedrooms and dining rooms.
