Description

A wide drum of grey and white faux silk laminate hangs here from an antique brass suspension, with five E27 lampholders set inside and a frosted acrylic diffuser closing the underside. At 60cm across it reads as a broad, calm shape rather than a busy one, and the diffuser spreads the light into an even wash instead of leaving bright points visible from below. The brass has a warm, aged tone that sits comfortably against the neutral shade.

We reach for this where a room needs plenty of light from a single ceiling point: above a long dining table, in a wide hallway, or in a sitting room with height to spare. The suspension adjusts on fitting and can be let down as far as 3.3m, so it works over a stairwell as easily as under a standard ceiling. It is dimmable provided the lamps and the dimmer are chosen to suit, and both are bought separately. For a dining table we would put in warm white LED GLS lamps and keep the drop generous enough to clear sightlines across the table.

The metalwork and the laminate shade are made to be looked at from underneath, which is why the diffuser is frosted rather than clear. For upkeep, run a soft brush over the faux silk now and then to lift dust, and use a barely damp cloth on the acrylic, avoiding polishes and solvents on the brass. Power down at the wall before you handle any part of it. It needs an earthed supply and a dry indoor position, so bathrooms and porches are best served by something else. Antique brass runs through the wider range too, on a compact semi flush fitting and on linear pendants sold ready for shades of your own choosing. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included.
