Description

A wide grey faux silk drum hangs from a polished chrome suspension, with five E27 lampholders sitting inside the shade rather than on show. The shade is 45cm across and deep enough to soften the light while spreading it over a good width, so one fitting covers a table or a seating group without help. The chrome drop is made up in sections, which means the hanging height is settled on the day and can be let out to a full stairwell length of 3.3m or kept short for a normal ceiling.

We reach for this one where a single small pendant would look lost: over a long dining table, in a tall hallway, above a kitchen island, or in a sitting room with a high ceiling and not much daylight. Because the lampholders are grouped together, the light reads as one warm pool rather than a row of separate points. It will dim with suitable lamps and a dimmer, which is worth doing in a dining room. We would put an LED GLS lamp in each holder and leave them below the maximum rating, and we keep it to dry rooms indoors, so a hall or landing rather than a shower room.

The frame and drop are metal in a bright polished chrome, with the fabric shade grey outside and a pale inner face that bounces light down. Dust the shade with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, and give the chrome an occasional buff with a dry duster; leave sprays and damp cloths away from the fabric. It carries a one year warranty. The same Baymont fittings are also made as shadeless universal flush and semi-flush plates and as linear pendants, in antique brass, satin nickel, satin black and white as well as chrome, if you want a matching piece elsewhere in the house. Lamps are not included.

The drop is adjustable from 375mm up to 3300mm, measured from the ceiling to the top of the shade, so it suits both standard and very tall rooms.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a compatible dimmer switch. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

How do I clean the shade without marking it?
