Description

A broad, shallow drum sits flush to the ceiling here, its faux silk shade in a soft ivory pearl, lined in white laminate so the light comes back clean rather than tinted. Beneath, a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside, and the five E27 lampholders read as a single even glow rather than points of glare. At 60cm across it is a generous piece, wide enough to hold its own over a table or in the middle of a good-sized room, while taking up almost no depth.

We reach for a fitting like this where a pendant would hang too low: a hallway with a stair turn, a bedroom, a dining room in a flat with a standard ceiling. The lampholders share the work, so each lamp can be modest and the light still carries across the full width of the room. It will dim, given suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer, which helps in a sitting room that does both reading and quiet evenings. We would fit LED GLS globes and leave them at a warm white.

The shade is faux silk over a rigid drum, and the pale surface rewards a little attention: draw a soft clothes brush across the outer face now and then, before dust settles into the weave.
