A broad, shallow drum in faux silk sits close against the ceiling, ivory pearl on the outside with a white laminate lining that keeps the tone warm and clean. A frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside, so what reaches the room is soft and even rather than a row of bright points. Five E27 lampholders share the work, which means plenty of light from modest bulbs. Measuring 50cm across, it reads as a generous circle, and sitting flush it keeps its height where a pendant would be in the way.

We reach for a fitting like this in hallways and landings with limited head height, in bedrooms where a hanging shade would hover awkwardly over the bed, and in square sitting rooms that want one calm central source instead of several table lamps. It suits rooms used mostly in the evening: fit dimmable LED GLS bulbs, add a compatible dimmer, and the level can be taken right down. Allow up to 20W in each lampholder. This is an earthed fitting for dry, heated rooms indoors on a household supply.

The shade is fabric over a formed frame, with the acrylic diffuser giving the flat, glowing underside. Keep the faux silk fresh with a soft brush or a vacuum upholstery head on its lowest setting, and wipe the acrylic with a barely damp cloth, never a solvent or cream cleaner, as both will cloud acrylic and mark the laminate. It carries a one year warranty. Bulbs are chosen and bought separately. What size is it?

It measures 500mm in diameter and 200mm deep, so it covers a good width of ceiling while staying tight to the surface.

Five E27 bulbs, with LED GLS (A60) shapes recommended, up to 20W each. They are not included.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you use dimmable bulbs together with a dimmer switch matched to them. No dimmer is supplied.

How do I clean the diffuser?

With the power off and the bulbs cool, wipe it with a soft cloth lightly dampened in water. Avoid alcohol, polish and abrasive cleaners, which permanently haze acrylic.

No. It is rated IP20, so keep it to dry rooms such as bedrooms, hallways and living rooms.
