Description

A wide drum shade faced in gold leaf hangs from antique brass metalwork, with five E27 lampholders set inside it and a frosted acrylic diffuser, detailed in antique brass, closing off the underside. At 60cm across, the shade spreads light broadly rather than in a narrow pool, and the diffuser keeps the lamps out of sight from below. The proportions are shallow for its width, so it reads as a broad band of gold rather than a deep drum. Inside, the shade is lined in white laminate.

This is a light for rooms with scale: over a long dining table, in a generous entrance hall, above a stairwell landing. We reach for it where a row of small pendants would look fussy and a single modest shade would look lost. The lampholders share the work, so the room reads bright without any one lamp being pushed hard. With suitable lamps and a dimmer on the circuit, the level can be taken down for the evening, though the dimmer is bought separately.

Construction is straightforward: a laminated shade with the gold leaf facing outward and white within, acrylic for the diffuser, and antique brass on the metalwork above. Dust the outer face with a soft brush and lift marks from the acrylic with a barely damp cloth, then dry it; keep solvents and sprays away from both. Lamps are not included, and we would put warm white LED GLS lamps in it. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range takes in single light semi flush fittings and linear pendants, antique brass among their finishes, if you want the same tone repeated elsewhere in the house.
