Description

A shallow ceiling fitting with a satin nickel frame and a wide drum shade, this one keeps its light close to the ceiling rather than dropping it into the room. The shade is faux silk, raw cocoa on the outer face with grecian bronze, and a frosted acrylic diffuser closes the underside so the three lamps read as a single soft wash rather than separate bright points. The lampholders are E27, the usual screw fitting.

At 40cm across it suits a hallway, a landing, a bedroom or a dining corner where the ceiling sits too low for anything on a rod or a cable. We reach for it in bungalows and loft conversions for that reason, and in bedrooms where even light across the whole floor matters more than a focal point over one spot. On a dimmer circuit with dimmable lamps it will drop to an evening level; LED GLS lamps rated up to 20W each are the sensible choice, and there is room in the shade for that shape without it crowding the diffuser.

The frame is metal in a satin nickel finish, warm and low in shine, which leaves the browns and bronzes of the shade fabric to do the talking. Dust the fabric with a soft brush or the upholstery head of a vacuum, going with the weave rather than against it, and wipe the acrylic with a barely damp cloth once everything has gone cold. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Baymont range goes further than this fitting: we also stock smaller semi flush versions in polished chrome, antique brass and satin black, universal flush plates in white, and linear pendants for long tables.
